Rudera ‘Roberto’ Stellenbosch Chenin Blanc 2007

Chenin Blanc from South Africa
Review Date : 09-Oct-2012
Bright straw-yellow colour with some golden hues. This has a very tight and concentrated nose of great depth, with stonefruits, nut, spicy barrel-ferment notes, some flinty reduction, all quite worked, but with great interest, developing more nuance with air time. Dryish to taste, this is densely concentrated on palate, packed with flavours of white stonefruits, spices, nuts, exotic florals, all interwoven and revealing complex nuancing. The richness of fruit is matched by alcohol power, and the acidity adds to the powerful drive. This is an immensely concentrated wine a complex winemaker-worked layering of character. This will keep 4-5 years. Fruit from two sites, vines planted 1979 and 1985. Barrel-fermented to 14.0% alc., 14.2 g/L rs and aged 8-12 months in 50% new French barriques. 18.5+/20 Oct 2012
