Ruby Bay ‘Captain’s Reserve’ Nelson Pinot Noir 2013

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Nelson
Review Date : 06-Jun-2016
Even, light ruby-red colour with garnet hues on the edge. The nose is moderately deep with aromas of dark-red berry fruit and subtle notes of dark and dried herbs, savoury spices and liquorice and lifted, nutty oak. Medium-bodied, the palate possesses fresh and bright red berry and dark cherry flavours that show richness and sweetness. The fruit reveals subtle fresh herb, spice and liquorice detail, and is supported by fine-grained tannin structure and balanced acidity. This has a firm core and line, and the wine carries to a taut, savoury, earthy finish. This is a firm and taut, bright-fruited Pinot Noir with cherry and spice flavours and fine, grainy tannins. Serve with casseroles and slow-cooked game meat over the next 4 years. A blend of 33% Abel, 30% clone 5, 27% 115 and 10% 667, fermented with 20% whole berries to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 14 months in 29% new French oak barriques. 16.5/20 Jun 2016 RRP $28.00
