RT Wines Horizon Pinot Noir 2018, Central Otago

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 18-Aug-2020
Bright, ruby-red with some depth, gradually lighter on the rim. The nose is elegant, aromas of raspberries, poached rhubarb, red cherries, entwined with wild thyme, earth and barrel spices. Medium-full bodied, flavours of red cherries, black raspberries, along with wild thyme, an amalgam of oak spices lingers to a spicy black pepper finish. The tannin is fine-grained with a noticeable presence, provides grip and structure. Earthy notes and herbs are growing stronger as it aerated, fill the palate with good weight. Lively acidity provides balance and freshness to a sustained finish with peppery spice. This is a medium-full bodied Pinot Noir with flavours of red fruit, wild thyme and barrel spices on a noticeable fine-grained tannin structure with a good grip. Match with roasted pork and lamb over the next 3-5 years. Fruit from Alexandra basin 80%, Pisa 20%. Handpicked, 15% whole-bunches, fermented to 13.6% alc. Aged 10 months in French oak barrels, 25% new. 18/20 pts Aug 2020 RRP $42
