Rod McDonald ‘Mister’ Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2016

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 30-Apr-2017
Full, even straw-yellow colour with pale golden hues. This has an elegant nose with a core of fresh yellow stonefruits and citrus fruit entwined with subtle notes of nutty oak, revealing nuances of herbs and leesy mineral suggestions. The aromatics are delicate and nuanced. Medium-full bodied, the palate has soft and gentle flavours of white and yellow stonefruits, with melon notes and some nutty oak. The mouthfeel is refreshing with crisp, lacy acidity, enhancing the flow along a light line. The flavours recede as the wines carries to a restrained, nutty nuanced finish. This is a restrained flavoured Chadonnay with white stonefruit and nutty notes on a fresh, light line leading to a subtly nuanced finish. Match with seafood and poultry over the next 2-3 years. Te Awanga fruit, fermented in tank with 10% in older barriques with solids to 13.5% alc., the oak portion aged 6 months, the wine undergoing batonnage and 10% MLF. 16.5+/20 May 2017 RRP $21.99
