Rockburn Nine Barrels Pinot Noir 2021, Central Otago

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Central Otago & Waitaki
Review Date : 15-Sep-2022
Deep, ruby-red, lighter on the rim. This has a full, broody, dark-sweet-fruited bouquet penetrating aromas of dark cherry and plum melded with cinnamon, nutmeg and herb. Medium-full bodied, aromas of dark cherry, plum and a suggestion of blueberry have a sweet core, entwined with thyme, black pepper and sweet spice. The fruit shows concentration and a dark, broody tone, enriched by thyme and oak spice. Finely extracted tannins structure and leave a velvety grip; lively, lacy acidity provide vitality and balance. This youthful Pinot Noir is broody, complex with black fruit, lifted spice and a fine structure. Match with roasted lamb and duck over the next 8-10 years. Fruit from Parkburn, Abel clone, cold soaked 8 days in 7-tonne fermenter, fermented over one week with daily plunging, post ferment maceration for 10 days, then aged 14 months in French oak, 22% new oak. 19/20 pts (95 pts) Sep 2022 RRP $99
