Chablis-style wines seem to be most suited to Chardonnay in Central Otago. Here, ‘Parkburn' and ‘Gibbston Valley Back Road' fruit was ‘wild yeast fermented, 14% in barrel to 14.2% alc. The wine was given lees contact and did not undergo MLF. Youthful pale straw-yellow with green hues to the colour, this has a very fresh, steely bouquet of florals and minerals, with yeasty-nutty lees, flint and complexing reductive hints. On palate, dry and racy with citrus, mineral and steel flavours with yeasty-nutty lees elements and barrel-ferment richness. An elegant wine with more than a nod towards Chablis. Match with seafood, poultry and white meats over the next 3-5 years. 17.0-/20 Feb 2011 RRP $25.00
