Rock Ferry Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2005

Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 26-Jul-2013
Fruit from the ‘Corners’ vineyard on the Wairau Plains, 70% barrel-fermented with indigenous yeasts and 30% inoculated in tank, to 12.3% alc. and 3.5 g/L rs., the wine aged on lees 3 ½ - 4 ½ months. Brilliant straw-yellow colour with slight green hues, light on edge. The bouquet is tight and intense with concentrated and complex aromas of greengages and green stonefruits, intermixed with spices, herbs, a little flinty lees and some earthy, secondary development. Dry to taste and medium-full bodied, a complex array of flavours is presented, with earth and toast intermingling with nectarines and stonefruits and spicy herbs. The flavours open out on mid-palate, with good acidity providing vitality, enhancing the fruit freshness. The wine softens in focus and the finish is dry, long and gently nuanced. This is a complex-flavoured, oak-influenced Sauvignon Blanc with earth and spicy development interest, and no signs of excess maturity. Serve with herb-marinated white meat dishes over the next 3+ years. 18.0/20 Jul 2013 RRP $N/A
