Rochfort Rees Marlborough Pinot Noir 2012

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 20-May-2013
Marlborough fruit, 50% from Omaka Valley and 50% from Awatere, fermented to 13.0% alc., with 5% aged in new oak barrels. Moderately deep ruby-red colour with youthful purple hues on rim. The bouquet is initially restrained, but builds with depth to show ripe, primary dark red berry fruit and red liquorice aromas with nuances of dark red florals and herb elements adding lift. Medium-bodied, ripe dark raspberry, liquorice and raspberry liqueur flavours fill the mouth. A fine textural thread with a trace of minerals and earth is integral with the linear drive. Tannin extraction and acidity is in good balance and the palate is soft in mouthfeel. The flavours flow to a gently sustained finish. This is a softly full, dark red fruited Pinot Noir with balance and gentle mouthfeel. Match with poultry and pork, or with Asian fare over the next 4+ years. 17.5/20 May 2013 RRP $23.99
