Very dark, deep ruby-red with black hues, youthful in appearance. This has a very fine, tightly concentrated nose of vibrant and aromatic dark red berry fruit, sour cherries and an enticing amalgam of whole-berry floral and leather. This is a little restrained, but shows finesse on bouquet. Medium-full bodied, a refined, tight core of dark, bitter cherry fruit is lifted into succulence with ripe plum and leather elements. The fruit is supported by fine-grained extraction, providing supple tannins, with soft acidity underlying the fruit and textures. The tannins build quietly to carry the palate to a long, moderately firm, dry finish. This is an elegant and refined Chianti with sweet fruit and a core of fine tannins. Match with barbecued and roasted red meats over the next 5-6+ years. 100% Sangiovese from the ‘Sant’Alfonso’ site fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged a year in 35 hl French oak. 17.5+/20 Oct 2013 RRP $34.99
