Riverby Estate ‘Sali’s Block’ Marlborough Riesling 2011

Riesling from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 04-Jun-2013
Named after Sali, one of the Matthews siblings who own Riverby Estate. Fruit from 20 y.o. vines from ‘Sali’s Block’ with some botrytis infection, fermented to 12.0% alc. and 18 g/L rs, TA 8.5 g/L and pH 2.86. Bright, very pale straw colour with pale green hues, near colourless on rim. The nose is elegant and delicate with fresh and pure, lifted white florals and fine citrus blossom notes. The aromatics reveal notes of honey and minerals, the botrytis very subtle. Medium-dry to taste, tight but bright fruit flavours of honeysuckle and citrus show with zestiness and liveliness, and a suggestion of lusciousness. The palate is restrained and bound, but poised with understated richness. Nuances of talc botrytis add detail and a layer of intrigue, and a little savoury interest is present. The flavours lead to a moderately sustained, and refreshing finish. This is a medium-dry, refreshing Riesling with a tight and concentrated palate showing delicate richness. Serve with Asian and Middle Eastern dishes over the next 4-6 years. 18.0+/20 Jun 2013 RRP $20.00
