Riverby Estate ‘Reserve’ Marlborough Pinot Noir 2013

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 06-Apr-2015
A selection of the 8 best barrels. Clones 114, 115, 667, 777 and 5 from the ‘Riverby’ vineyard, vines 8-22 y.o., fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 15 months in 40% new French oak. Full ruby-red colour with slight garnet hues, lighter on edge. The nose is softly concentrated with a firm core of dark red berry fruits along with layers of soft, spicy and nutty oak and nuances of dried herbs. Plum, liquorice and violet floral detail emerge with aeration, and build in depth and intensity. Medium-full bodied, the palate is lively and vibrant with rich and spicy dark red berry fruit flavours complexed by liquorice, plum, nutty and cedary oak. This has depth, density and concentration, and the mouthfeel is rounded with excellent presence. The wine flows harmoniously with lacy acidity and fine-grained tannins underlining the fruit, carrying through to a refined, dry, concentrated finish. This is a full, rich and well-concentrated Pinot Noir with spicy oak and a harmonious mouthfeel. Match with lamb, beef and game meat over the next 6-7 years. 18.5/20 Apr 2015 RRP $35.00
