Riverby Estate Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon 2011

Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 20-Feb-2013
65% Sauvignon Blanc mostly tank fermented, a small portion in oak, with 35% Semillon, from vines around 20 y.o., fermented and aged 8 months in new French oak, this portion undergoing batonnage. 12.7% alc. and 4 g/L rs. Bright, pale straw-yellow, near colourless on edge. This has a gently full bouquet with deep and well-packed aromas of greengages and white stonefruits along with subtly complex savoury nectarine, spice and herb notes as well as hints of smoke and oak. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, fine-featured and gently rich and succulent flavours of nectarines, gooseberries and stonefruits reveal nuances of spicy, nutty oak. The flavours are in balance and good proportion. Soft in texture with good density, the acidity lifts the fruit, and leads the palate to a light, crisp and dry finish with excellent length and lingering spicy oak notes. This is a refined, stylish, oak-influenced Sauvignon Blanc based wine reminiscent of the wines of the Graves region of Bordeaux. Serve with seafood and herb-marinated poultry over the next 3-4 years. 18.0-/20 Feb 2013 RRP $25.00
