Riverby Estate Marlborough Gruner Veltliner 2013

Gruner Veltliner from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 02-Apr-2015
First crop from the ‘Riverby’ vineyard, cool-fermented in stainless-steel to 12.0% alc. and 6.3 g/L RS. Bright straw-yellow colour with green hues, lighter on rim. The bouquet is tightly concentrated with intense and focussed aromas of green herbs, grass, white stonefruits and white pepper, revealing some savoury secondary green stonefruit nuances from bottle development. Dryish to taste and medium-light bodied, the palate is openly accessible with easy and broad flavours of grass, herbs, white pepper and minerals. The flavours are up-front, yielding to grainy, drying phenolic textures through the mid-palate. The wine is underlined by fresh, lacy acidity, leading the palate to an open, light-flavoured, dry finish. This is a broad, textured, off-dry Gruner Veltliner with developing grassy and herbal flavours and a phenolic, dry-textured palate. Match with herb-marinated white meat dishes over the next 18 months to 2 years. 16.5/20 Apr 2015 RRP $24.00
