Riverby Estate Marlborough Chardonnay 2011

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 29-May-2013
Mendoza clone fruit from vines planted in 1989, barrel-fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 11 months in 25% new French oak, undergoing batonnage with approx. 50% MLF. Bright straw-yellow colour with green-gold hues, lighter on rim. The bouquet is light and even, the fruit tightly bound, showing soft citrus and mealy, biscuit notes harmoniously intermixed with subtle barrel notes, butterscotch MLF, and a flinty lees component that grows in the glass. Medium-bodied, restrained flavours of citrus fruits, mealy notes and nuts are complexed by flinty elements. Lively and bright acidity enhances the fruit freshness and richness, bringing a vitality and energy to the mouthfeel. There is a fine textural line that guides the palate to a lingering, dry finish. This is a tightly bound, elegant Chardonnay with a complex citrus and flinty lees amalgam and freshness. It should increase in richness over the next 4-5+ years. Serve with seafood and poultry. 17.5+/20 May 2013 RRP $26.00
