Ridgeback ‘Alex’ Central Otago Pinot Noir 2012

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 13-May-2013
Alex was the ridgeback cross of the Medlicott family. A blend of Abel, clone 5 and 667, fully destemmed and fermented to 13.8% alc., the wine aged 9 months in 8% new French oak. Full, dark, deep, purple-hued ruby-red colour, youthful in appearance. The bouquet is soft and light with primary red berry fruit aromas along with red florals and soft herbal notes. Some spicy richness and depth grows with air time. Medium-bodied, the flavours are a little restrained in expression, showing red berry fruit, herbs, spices and pepper. The fruit has a degree of sweetness, enhanced by fresh acidity, and has depth. Dry, grainy tannin extract supports the fruit, providing substance and weight to the body and mouthfeel, and the structure carries through to a moderately long finish with spices and fruity nuances. This is a light-flavoured Pinot Noir with red fruits and a little pepperiness that has some substance and body. Serve with poultry and pork dishes over the next 3-4 years. 16.5+/20 May 2013 RRP $25.00
