Richmond Plains Nelson Pinot Gris 2014

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Nelson
Review Date : 07-Jan-2015
Full straw-yellow colour with golden hues and a slight blush, lighter on rim. This has a fresh, light nose with delicate aromas of yellow florals revealing a core of stonefruit kernels, with honeysuckle and hints of tropical fruits and nuts. Off-dry to taste and medium-full bodied, the palate features a tight core of stonefruits with savoury apricot notes. The fruit is framed by fine textures and shows good body and weight, and soft acidity. Some alcohol drive underlines the flavours, and the wine grows in richness with honeysuckle elements unfolding and carrying through to a grainy-textured finish. This is an off-dry, well-weighted Pinot Gris with restrained stonefruit and apricotty flavours. Serve with Middle Eastern fare over the next 3+ years. Hand-picked fruit from 50% ‘Bartlett’ and 50% ‘Marsland’ vineyards, fermented with 12% by wild yeasts in puncheon to 14.0% alc. and 6.58 g/L RS, the wine aged 6 months in puncheon with batonnage. 439 cases made. 17.0+/20 Jan 2015 RRP $21.99
