Ricatto Chianti Classico DOCG 2012

Sangiovese from Italy - Tuscany
Review Date : 19-Nov-2015
Full, even, dark ruby-red colour with a little garnet on the rim. This has an elegantly concentrated nose with aromas of dark red cherry fruit melded with a fine layer of earth and nutty elements and entwined with nuances of dried herbs and spicy, toasty oak. Complexing earth and mineral nuances emerge with aeration. Medium-bodied, the fruit is tightly bound and elegant, with restrained expression. The flavours of dark red cherries, leather, dried herbs and earth form a firm core and line with grainy tannin structure and extraction in support. This has good linearity, the acidity integrated and harmonious, and the wine leads to a fine-textured, long-lingering finish with nuances of spicy oak, dried herbs and leather. This is an elegant, tightly bound Chianti with flavours of dark cherries and leather with a firm tannin structure and subtle spicy oak detail. Match with lamb, beef, venison and hard cheeses over the next 4-5 years. 90% Sangiovese and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon from Castellina in Chianti Classico, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 12 months in 2,000 L oak casks. Winemaker: Franco Bernabei. 17.5/20 Nov 2015 RRP $30.00
