Reserve Road Hawke’s Bay Malbec/Merlot/Cabernet 2015

Blended Red from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 24-Aug-2016
Very dark, deep, purple-red colour, a little lighter on the rim, and very youthful in appearance. The nose is well-concentrated and proportioned with aromas of ripe, savoury and spicy blackberry fruit, the Malbec prominent, along with more reserved notes of ripe black plums, with suggestions of fresh herbs and cassis. The aromatics are firm and direct. Medium-bodied, the palate features a firm core of moderately rich blackberry fruit entwined with herbs and spices, black plums and dark chocolate notes. The fruit is underlined by sinewy, grainy textures providing grip and a firm line. The acidity is integrated and the wine carries easily to a dry, firm finish with black fruit notes. This is a firm, black-fruited Malbec/Merlot/Cabernet blend with grainy tannin structure. Serve with barbecued and roasted red meats over the next 4 years. A blend with approximate equal portions of Malbec, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon from several vineyard sites fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine given oak contact with 25% new equivalence. 17.0/20 Aug 2016 RRP $36.99
