Rene Engel Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2002

Pinot Noir from France - Burgandy
Review Date : 04-May-2014
Deep garnet-red colour with some bricking. This has a very full and deep bouquet, harmoniously presented with fully integrated secondary game meat, dried herd, forest floor aromas of secondary development. There is lovely complexing waves of detail, and an ethereal lift that provides a sense of elegance. Medium-bodied and elegantly proportioned, sweet and luscious flavours of savoury red fruits, game, undergrowth and dried herbs flow smoothly on the palate. This has richness and a seamless integration. The palate is underlined by very fine-grained tannins, which are beginning to become resolved, but the acidity provides good tension and a degree of freshness to the mouthfeel. The palate carries to a long, elegant finish. This is a mature and complex Clos de Vougeout, maybe a little forward. It will drink well over the next 4-5 years. 18.5/20 Apr 2014 RRP $N/A
