Renato ‘Reserve’ Nelson Merlot 2011

Merlot from New Zealand - Nelson
Review Date : 21-Mar-2013
Very full, deep, black-hued ruby-red colour. This has an intense and concentrated bouquet of black berry and blackcurrant fruit aromas along with notes of earth and minerals, unfolding to reveal redcurrant perfumes. Medium-bodied and elegant in proportion, this has well-concentrated flavours of ripe, black berried fruits with nuances of liquorice, earth and minerals. Oaking is unobtrusive. The flavours are sleek and flow smoothly across the palate supported by fine, powdery tannins and lacy acidity. This has good tension and energy, leading the flavours to a fine, moderately sustained, taut finish. This is an elegantly concentrated Merlot with ripe, black fruit flavours and fine-grained tannins to match with slow-cooked game meats and hard cheeses over the next 7-8 years. Merlot fruit hand-picked and fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 11 months in 20% new French oak barriques. 135 dozen made. 17.5+/20 Mar 2013 RRP $25.00
