Renato Nelson Merlot 2013

Merlot from New Zealand - Nelson
Review Date : 20-Apr-2015
Dark, deep ruby-red colour, lighter edge, youthful in appearance. The nose is softly concentrated with aromas of dark red plums entwined with dark herb nuances forming a good core. Some oak lift and liquorice elements emerge with aeration. Medium-full bodied, the flavours of red plums and subtle herbal layers show gently on the palate. The wine has good body and presence, and the mouthfeel is well-balanced with fine-grained tannin extraction and integrated, discreet acidity. The structure builds and carries the flavours to a light, dry finish. This is a gentle Merlot with plum and herb flavours and a fine-grained tannin core and structure. Serve with pork or veal, and with Mediterranean fare over the next 4 years. Hand-picked fruit cropped at 4 t/ha fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 20% new French oak. 16.0+/20 Apr 2015 RRP $24.90
