Redmetal Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2016

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 01-Jun-2017
Dark, deep, black-hued ruby-red colour, lighter on edge with youthful purple tints. The nose is softly full and openly accessible with good volume and depth of blackberry and dark raspberry fruit, harmoniously entwined with notes of black pepper, spices, red florals, unfolding suggestions of white pepper. Medium-bodied, the palate has sweet and juicy flavours of blackberries and raspberries, along with notes of plum jam and spices, revealing dark-red florals and white pepper. The mouthfeel is refreshing and vibrant, the sweet fruit enhanced by bright, balancing acidity. The fruit is supported by light, supple tannins and the wine carries with good linearity to a lingering finish of raspberries, blackberries and pepper. This is a bright, sweet and refreshingly juicy, accessible Syrah with supple tannins. Serve with Asian and Middle Eastern fare over the next 3+ years. 95% Syrah and 5% Merlot, all three Syrah clones used, fully destemmed and fermented to 12.0% alc., 20% of the wine aged 9 months in barrel, of which 30% was new (or 7% of the total). 17.5-/20 Jun 2016 RRP $22.00
