Redmetal Hawke’s Bay Merlot/Cabernet Franc 2015

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 02-Jun-2016
Very dark, deep, purple-hued ruby-red, a little lighter on the rim and very youthful in appearance. The nose is very fresh, bright and filling with vibrant and well-packed primary fruit aromas of ripe dark red and black plums with nuances of blue fruits and dark redcurrants. Dark red florals, aniseed and herbal elements add detail. Medium-bodied and elegantly proportioned, the fruit is up-front with sweetly ripe and juicy black and dark red plum fruit flavours along with boysenberry and redcurrant elements. The mouthfeel is bright and near-fleshy, with modest tannin extraction and fresh lacy acidity allowing the fruitiness to prevail. The wine carries with richness and energy, receding to a dry, elegant, moderately sustained finish. This is a bright and rich, up-front, sweet-fruited Merlot with primary plum, blue-fruited and redcurrant flavours and an easy, refreshing mouthfeel. Match with pasta, pizza and barbecued fare over the next 3+ years. A blend of 96% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc from the ‘Redmetal’ vineyard, one-third of the vines 24 y.o. and two-thirds 17 y.o., fermented to 12.5% alc., with 12% aged 10 months in oak, of which 20% was new. 17.0+/20 Jun 2016 RRP $19.95
