Redmetal Hawke’s Bay Merlot/Cabernet Franc 2013

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 17-Sep-2014
Full, dark, near impenetrable purple-red colour, youthful in appearance. The nose is soft and restrained with aromas of sweetly ripe black plums and violet florals, seamlessly entwined with nuances of redcurrants and fresh herbs, revealing a hint youthful reduction. Medium-bodied, plush, juicy and vibrant fruit flavours of dark plums and dark red berry fruit form a deep core. The fruit is supported by fine, firm tannins that provide linearity. Notes of redcurrants and herbs unfold and the mouthfeel is enlivened by bright acidity. This is up-front and accessible, with the firm tannin line carrying the wine to a sustained, grainy-textured finish. This is a bright, lively and juicy Merlot-based wine with good underlying tannin line. Match with barbecued and roasted red meats over the next 4-5+ years. 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc fermented to 14.0% alc., with hand-plunging and pump-over, the wine aged 6 months in 5% new oak. 17.5/20 Sep 2014 RRP $20.00
