Redmetal Hawke’s Bay Merlot/Cabernet Franc 2011

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 18-Oct-2012
Moderately deep, even ruby-red colour with light purple hues, lighter on edge. This has an elegant and tightly bound nose of dark red and black berry fruits that reveal smoky dried herbs and some peppery elements, the aromas with good depth. Medium-light bodied, light red berry fruits and spicy, oak cedar flavours combine with dried herb notes and softly flow on a seamless, fine-grained palate. The acidity is fresh and brisk, and adds to the juiciness of the fruit, which builds through the palate. Red fruits, spices and cedar show on a sustained finish. This is a lighter Merlot-based wine with juicy fruit and cedary flavours that flow smoothly. Match with pasta, pizza and barbecued food over the next 3-4+ years. 98% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc from the ‘Redmetal' and ‘Erinview' sites, fermented to 12.5% alc., the wine aged 13 months in 1 and 2 y.o. oak barrels, 80% French and 20% American. 16.5+/20 Oct 2012 RRP $19.00
