Redmetal Hawke’s Bay Merlot/Cabernet Franc 2009

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 27-Mar-2011
The main-stay wine for Grant and Sue Edmonds from the beginning of Redmetal. 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc from the ‘Redmetal' vineyards, fermented to 13.5% alc, the wine aged 12 months in 10% new oak. Dark, deep, ruby-red colour with purple hues, this has a full nose of ripe dark berry fruits and plums with notes of bramble and tobacco, attractively up-front and with clarity. Medium-weighted, the palate is elegant and juicy with aromatic dark and red berry fruit flavours and notes of tobacco, dried herbs and earth, very much Merlot in expression. Moderately extracted tannins are balanced with fresh acidity which provides good line and length. Serve with pizza, pasta and most red meat dishes over the next 4-5 years. 16.5+/20 Mar 2011 RRP $15.00
