Redmetal ‘Basket Press’ Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2015

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 01-Jun-2017
Full, even, black-hued ruby-red colour, a little lighter on the rim. The nose is firmly concentrated with deep and densely packed aromas of ripe blackberry fruit along with black plums, liquorice, minerals and earthy complexities. The nose unfolds dark-red florals and violet fragrances with spicy elements. Full-bodied, the palate is firm and deeply concentrated with a core of ripe blackberry fruit along with black plums, liquorice, spices and minerals. Black pepper, floral, nutty oak and slightly funky earthy suggestions lend complexing detail and interest. The mouthfeel shows fine, grainy tannin structure and harmonious acidity. The extraction carries the wine to a sustained, textural finish. This is a firmly concentrated and structured, ripe Syrah with blackberry, liquorice and earthy flavours and peppery, floral and spice complexities. Match with casseroles and slow-cooked game meat dishes over the next 7-9 years. A blend of 88% clone 470 Syrah and 12 % Merlot, fully destemmed and fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 9 months in 30% new oak. 18.5+/20 Jun 2017 RRP $35.00
