Redmetal ‘Basket Press’ Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2014

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 02-Jun-2016
Full, dark, black-red colour with lighter purple hues on the rim. This has a tightly concentrated, slightly reserved bouquet showing savoury dark-red berry fruits intermingling with spices, subtle pepper elements, and nutty, bacon-like oak nuances. Some cedary earthiness adds a complexing layer to the aromatics. Medium-full bodied, finely concentrated and intense flavours of savoury and spicy red fruits form a fine-grained, concentrated core with balanced extraction and structure. The palate reveals spices, nutty and bacony oak, and earthy notes adding interest. This has good linearity which carries the flavours to a long, lingering dry and fine-textured finish of spices and savoury red fruit. This is an elegantly concentrated Syrah with savoury and spicy dark red fruits and bacony oak forming fine-grained, linear core. Match with Middle Eastern lamb dishes over the next 5+ years. Primarily MS clone fruit with a small portion of first crop 470 clone fruit, from the ‘Redmetal’ vineyard, the MS clone vines 12 y.o., fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 9 months in 15% new oak. 17.5+/20 Jun 2016 RRP $32.00
