Redmetal ‘Basket Press’ Hawke’s Bay Merlot/Cabernet Franc 2010

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 18-Oct-2012
95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc from the ‘Redmetal' vineyards, fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 12 months in 50% new oak, approx. 80% French and 20% American. Dark, deep, ruby-red colour with black hues. Full, dense aromas of ripe dark red and black berry fruits and plums are interwoven with savoury spices, black ink, earth and eucalypt notes, unfolding to show expansive complex oak cedar and secondary dried herb nuances. Full-bodied, rich, full and densely packed flavours of dark red fruits and plums merge with spicy American oak and cedar flavours, with ink and subtle herb, mint and chocolate notes. The acidity is soft, enhancing the richness and breadth on palate, and the fine tannins build to provide a density and solid mouthfeel, that leads to a very long and sustained finish. This is a very traditional, full-bodied, Merlot-based wine with plum and cedary flavours and a rich mouthfeel. Match with slow-cooked game meat dishes over the next 6-7+ years. 18.0+/20 Oct 2012 RRP $30.00
