Fruit from Lowburn, hand-picked and transported to Marlborough, given a 7 day cold soak and wild yeast fermented to 13.5% alc. The wine was aged 10 months in French oak barriques. Dark ruby-red colour with good depth, a little garnet on edge. The bouquet is powerful and concentrated with black fruit aromas along with dark herbs, earth, oak toast and char. Medium-full bodied, this is tightly bound and concentrated with flavours of black berry and cherry fruit forming a layered amalgam with spices and toasty oak. Good, bright acidity enlivens the fruit, adding to the sweetness and richness, and supple tannins build forming a fine core and soft, full mouthfeel. Oak features on the long, mellow finish. This is a concentrated, fresh and accessible, black-fruited Pinot Noir with noticeable oak. Match with barbecued and grilled poultry and pork over the next 3-4+ years. 17.5-/20 Apr 2012 RRP $38.95
