Rapaura Springs Rohe-Southern Valleys Pinot Noir 2018, Marlborough

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 24-Aug-2021
Deep ruby-red with good transparency, lighter on edge. The nose is softly full, with richness; nuances of earth, thyme melded with dark plums, cherries, cinnamon and a hint of deep floral fragrance. Medium-bodied, aromas of plums and cherries enliven by bright raspberries, unfolding cinnamon, savoury and earthy elements, which presented with weight on the palate; cinnamon and spices lengthen, and integrated acidity drives a long finish. Powdery tannin left a velvety mouthfeel. Match this with roasted duck and herb-crusted lamb over the next 5-7 years. Dijon clones, the fruit was sourced from Waihopai and Omaka Valleys. Handpicked, cold-soaked for 5 days, fermented with 10% whole bunch to 12.5% alc, aged in French oak for 10 months, 55% new oak (15% puncheon). 18.5+/20 pts (94 pts) Aug 2021 RRP $36.90
