Bright, very pale straw colour with slight green hues. The nose is very refined with intensely penetrating aromas of lifted white florals, stonefruits, cool-spectrum cut-grass and nettles, along with mineral and flinty detail and a layer of passionfruit that emerges with aeration. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, very tightly held, elegantly presented, pure flavours of gooseberries, nettles and minerals feature on the palate. This has a refined, well-driven, linearity along with crisp, lacy acidity lending the mouthfeel excellent poise, balance and energy. The wine is slender, but well-concentrated, and carries to a very long, sustained, mouthwatering finish with cut and precision. This is a very refined, penetrating Sauvignon Blanc with purity and mouthwatering freshness. Serve with seafood and Pacific Rim cuisine over the next 2+ years. Fruit from the Awatere, Lower Wairau, Upper Wairau and Waihopi, cool-fermented in stainless-steel to 13.0% alc. and 4.8 g/L RS, the wine given extended lees contact and batonnage. 18.5+/20 Sep 2014 RRP $19.99
