Rapaura Springs Marlborough Verdelho 2011

Verdelho from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 27-Jul-2014
First crop fruit from an estate vineyard in Rapaura, partially fermented in old oak to 12.5% alc. and 4.5 g/L rs, the wine spending 10 months on lees. Brilliant straw-yellow colour with green hues, pale on edge. This has a softly full nose with a gentle intricacy of citrus and tropical fruit aromas with nuances of confectionary and smoky, flinty lees. Dry to taste, subtle tropical fruit and honeysuckle flavours grow with breadth and weight on the palate. The fruit has a lusciousness which is enhanced by lower acidity, and the wine is soft textured. The fruit richness is complemented by minerally, leesy undertones on the finish which is long and sustained. This is an attractive, well-flavoured Verdelho with softness and some richness and interest to match antipasto and poultry dishes over the next 2-3+ years. Only 42 6-packs produced. 17.0/20 Apr 2012 RRP $22.99
