Quarter Acre Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2011

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 07-Feb-2013
Full, dark, deep purple-ruby colour, youthful in appearance. The bouquet is finely perfumed and penetratingly aromatic with an intense melange of ripe black fruits, cracked black pepper, dark red florals along with minerals and iron-earth elements. Medium-full bodied, sweetly ripe black berry fruit and black pepper flavours are laced with spices and liquorice, and complexed with nuances of iron and earth. The mouthfeel is seamless and silky with very fine-grained, powdery tannin forming an elegant structure, and the acidity is balanced and in harmony, providing excellent fresh energy and tension along the palate line. The flavours lead to a long, lingering finish with violet and peppery notes. This is a seamless Syrah of refinement and harmony, with black pepper and spice flavours. Match with fine game or slow-cooked red meat dishes over the next 6-8+ years. Fruit from Mere Road in the Gimblett Gravels, fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 14 months in 50% new French oak barriques. 19.0-/20 Feb 2013 RRP $29.95
