Quarter Acre Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2015

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 18-Apr-2016
Bright, even, light straw-yellow colour with pale green hues, pale edged. The nose is finely proportioned and tightly bound with fresh aromas of white stonefruits and subtle citrus fruit elements, softly layered by complexing flinty lees and minerally reductive notes. This is refined in expression and builds in depth with aeration. Medium-bodied, the palate features vibrant and aromatic white stonefruit flavours along with citrus fruit detail, complexed by nutty, flinty and mineral notes, forming a concentrated core and line. The mouthfeel is refreshingly bright with crisp acidity underlining the fruit and adding energy, carrying the wine to a long, taut, dry finish of stonefruits and flint. This is an elegantly concentrated, lively and vibrant, complex, contemporary Chardonnay with a core of white stonefruits, flint and minerals. Match with seafood, poultry and pork over the next 4-5 years. Mendoza clone Chardonnay from 20 y.o. vines from the ‘Doc’s Block’ vineyard, Haumoana, fully barrel-fermented with high solids by indigenous yeasts to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 50% new French oak barriques on yeast lees with 20% MLF. 18.5+/20 Apr 2016 RRP $34.99
