Quarter Acre Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2014

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 24-May-2015
Bright, pale straw-yellow colour, lighter on rim. The nose is softly full and elegant with aromas of fresh white stonefruits and subtle mealy elements harmoniously melded with complexing flinty lees and minerally reduction, and nuances of toasty, smoky oak. Medium-bodied, this is elegantly concentrated with sweet, lush and aromatic white stonefruits and citrus fruits, entwined with gunflint layers. This has a tight core and the mouthfeel is enlivened by fresh acidity, with the palate following a fine phenolic line. This has cut and balance, and the drive to carry to a long, flinty finish. This is an elegant, tightly bound, youthful Chardonnay with lush white stonefruit flavours and gunflinty complexity. Match with seafood, poultry and pork over the next 4+ years. Hand-picked fruit from ‘Doc’s Block’, Haumoana, from 20 y.o. vines, WBP and indigenous yeast fermented on full solids to 13.0% alc., the wine aged on lees for 11 months in 60% new French oak with 20% MLF. 18.5/20 May 2015 RPP $34.99
