Quarter Acre Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2012

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 03-Apr-2014
Bright, straw-yellow colour with a hint of light gold, lighter on rim. The nose is soft and gently full with aromas of white stonefruits infused with chalky minerals and subtle flinty lees elements, all in a harmonious balance. Medium-bodied and elegant in presentation, tightly bound and subtle flavours of white stonefruits and citrus fruit are seamlessly interwoven with flinty lees and nutty oak elements. The mouthfeel is smooth, hinting at a creamy flow, but quite dry, with a fine phenolic line carrying the flavours with fresh, lacy acidity. The flavours lead to a light, dry, nutty nuanced finish. This is an elegant dry and finely textured Chardonnay. Serve with seafood and poultry over the next 4+ years. Fruit from ‘Doc’s Block’ in Haumoana from vines approx. 20 y.o., hand-picked and WBP, fully barrel-fermented with indigenous yeasts to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 18 months in 40% new French oak barriques on gross lees, with 100% MLF. 17.5+/20 Apr 2014 RRP $31.99
