Quarter Acre Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2011

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 08-Feb-2013
Fullish straw-yellow colour with golden hues. The nose is full, broad, solid and robust, firmly packed with aromas of ripe yellow stonefruits and citrus fruits intermixed with complex flinty elements and nutty oak. This has richness and depth. Fullish bodied and surprisingly restrained and stylish, gentle and luscious flavours of ripe citrus fruits are harmoniously layered with nutty oak and flint. The flavours are smooth and harmoniously presented with a soft richness. There is an underlying power and alcohol warmth balanced by lacy, lively acidity that emerges on the finish providing freshness and nuance. This is a fulsome, stylishly restrained and complex-flavoured Chardonnay to match with roasted and grilled seafood and white meats over the next 4-5+ years. Fruit from ‘Doc's Block' vineyard, Te Awanga, WBP and indigenous yeast fermented with full solids to 13.0% alc., and aged 12 months in 40% new French oak barriques, the wine undergoing batonnage. 18.5-/20 Feb 2013 RRP $29.95
