Q Waitaki Valley Pinot Noir 2011

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 05-Jul-2012
Clones 5, Abel, 667 and 115, hand-picked and fermented with 25% whole bunch to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 9 months in 40% new French oak. Wine made by Grant Taylor. Very dark, deep, purple-hued ruby-red colour, youthful in appearance. Bright, vibrant dark berry and cherry aromas show with lifted violet and peppery notes and hints of raspberry confectionary and jam. Medium-bodied, intense, juicy flavours of dark berry fruits and raspberries fill the palate, unfolding violet florals, and boiled sweets. The fruit is upfront and its moderate depth enables accessibility. Elegantly proportioned, the palate is supported by supple, fine, chalky tannins and balanced acidity. The wine has a very long, lingering finish, with tightly bound, but sweet red berry fruits and lively acidity. This is a bright and juicy, but elegantly sized Pinot Noir with approachability. Match with poultry, pork and pasta dishes over the next 4-5+ years. 18.0/20 Jul 2012 RRP $47.25
