Pyramid Valley Pinot Noir 2021, North Canterbury

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 17-May-2023
Deep purple with a ruby hue, lighter on edge. The sweet fruited nose is pure, penetrating aromas of blackcurrant, cherry, plum, black pepper, nutmeg, floral, subtle savoury earth and dark herb. Medium-full bodied, concentrated on the palate, aromas of black cherry, plum and blackcurrant have a savoury edge, enriched by earthy clay, dark herb, black pepper and nutmeg. The wine shows the fruit's purity and a sweet line of flavour; savoury earthiness broadens the palate, and the powdery tannins provide a satisfying mouthfeel. Balanced, integrated acidity carries a sustained, broody finish. Match with mushroom risotto and roasted pigeon over the next 8+ years. Handpicked, fermented with wild yeasts, aged 12-18 months in French oak, bottled unfined, unfiltered. 13.5% alc. 19/20 pts (95 pts) May 2023 RRP $50
