Deep ruby-red with good transparency, lighter edged. The nose is gently full, nuances of dark herbs and earth melded with savoury plums, black cherries, subtle black pepper and floral fragrance. Medium-full bodied, earthy nuances of dark herbs, savoury ash, unfolding black pepper, black cherries, fragrant plums, cherry blossoms, orange pith; aromas linger for a lasting savoury finish. The wine has a positive rawness, pure and complex; powdery tannin is supple and natural, added a fine layer to the palate. This is a savoury Pinot Noir in its pure form with flavours of dark fruit, herbs and earth on a supple, natural tannin palate. Match with venison and duck casserole over the next 5 years. Fruit from organic conversion or biodynamic vineyards in Waipara, fermented with indigenous yeast and bacteria, 25-30% whole bunch, 2-3 weeks on skins, 25% new oak, unfined and unfiltered with minimal sulphur additions. 13% alc.
