Pyramid Valley Orange 2021, North Canterbury

Blended White from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 13-May-2022
Medium amber with a bit of haze, even colour throughout. The nose is welcoming with lush aromas of pear and lychee, intermixed tea leaf, floral, basil and spice. Full-bodied, ripe pear, lychee, basil, and cardamon melded with yellow blossom and tea leaf. The fruit shows depth and concentration with complexities contributed by tannin extraction, leaving a firm and unctuous mouthfeel. Balanced acidity lengthens the firm mouthfeel and lends a fragrant, long finish. This is a complex on skins wine with pure, ripe fruit, spice and a chewy, textural palate. Match with crispy pork belly and grilled salmon over the next 5-7 years. A blend of 80% Pinot Gris, 11% Sauvignon Blanc, 7% Riesling, 1% Muscat, 1% Gewürztraminer, whole bunch fermented in 1,000L open-top fermenters for 10-21 days, pressed then aged in clay amphora and old barrels for 8 months, 13.5% alc, unfined and unfiltered. Vegan friendly. 18.5/20 pts (93 pts) RRP $35
