Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Central Otago & Waitaki
Review Date : 17-Apr-2023
Moderately deep crimson, slightly lighter on edge. The nose is gently full with clam aromas of cherry, plum, thyme, liquorice, earth and spice. Medium-bodied, aromas of cherry and plum enriched by earth, thyme, cinnamon, nutmeg and an ashy, liquorice lingering. The fruit is enticing, with a bitter-sweet element adding interest. Velvety, smooth tannins lightly coated the mouthfeel, and balanced, lively acidity lends an earthy finish. This well-rounded Pinot Noir possesses good energy, earthy elements and charming bitter-sweet details. Match with duck and lamb over the next 5+ years. Handpicked fruit from Lowburn and Bannockburn, fermented with wild yeasts to 14% alc, then aged in French oak for 18 months before bottling, unfined & unfiltered. 18.5+/20 pts (94 pts) Apr 2023 RRP $50
