Putiki Bay Waiheke Island Merlot 2008

Merlot from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 11-Feb-2013
Dark, deep, ruby-red colour with a black-red heart, and garnet hues on rim. The bouquet is elegantly full and evenly presented with lifted aromas of dark red berry fruit and plums, finely integrated and interwoven with cedary notes. Medium-bodied and elegant in proportion, this features very smooth flowing flavours of savoury and spicy red berry fruits that reveal subtle earthy detail and harmoniously integrated cedary oak notes from secondary development. The mouthfeel is supple with fine-grained, building tannins supporting the fruit, and lifted, aromatic fruit and wood flavours that flow to a smooth, dry, grainy finish with good length. This is an elegant, smooth Merlot wine with attractive spice and cedary flavours beginning to mature. Serve with roasted duck, pork, beef and lamb, as well as hard cheeses over the next 4-5 years. Predominantly Merlot with Malbec. 12.5% alc. 17.5-/20 Feb 2013 RRP $44.50
