Prunotto Barolo DOCG 2008

Nebbiolo from Italy - Piedmont
Review Date : 08-Oct-2014
Moderately deep garnet-red colour with some bricking, lighter on rim. This has a firm and powerfully concentrated bouquet of savoury red fruits with earth and leather, lifted by red floral fragrances, along with complexing and layered detail of undergrowth, game and tar. Full-bodied, and fulsome, complex flavours of earth, game and leather intermingle with savoury red berry fruits, leather and dried herbs. The fruit is encased by firm, grainy tannins and the palate is underscored by brisk, racy acidity. This is vigorous and based on extraction and structure, yet the wine flows with a degree of elegance, and is slender in proportion. This is classical Nebbiolo from a lighter vintage, exhibiting plenty of grip. Keep another 6-8+ years. It needs a hearty game meat dish to accompany it. 100% Nebbiolo from Monforte, Castiglione Falletto, and Serralunga fermented to 13.5% alc., wine aged principally in 50 and 75 hL French oak casks, with a small part aged in 1 y.o. 60 gallon oak barrels. 17.5+/20 Oct 2014 RRP $90.95
