Prophet’s Rock Central Otago Dry Riesling 2010

Riesling from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 15-Apr-2014
Fruit from 1 ha on the Pisa Vineyard, hand-picked, WBP and indigenous yeast fermented in seasoned oak to 12.2% alc. and 10 g/L RS, with TA 7.7 g/L and pH 2.95, the wine aged on lees. Brilliant straw-yellow colour with light, green-gold hues, light on edge. The nose is fine and elegantly concentrated with tightly bound and deep aromas of pure lime fruit along with subtle hints of toast and refined flint and minerally lees elements. Some complex oxidative nutty hints add detail. Dryish to taste, the palate is poised, lively and fresh with finely expressed flavours of limes and minerals, flint and a nutty suggestion. Excellent acid piquancy and very delicate phenolics guide the flavours with linearity, carrying the wine to a mouthwatering, dry finish. This is a fresh, lively and poised dry Riesling with soft complex mineral elements reminiscent to the wines of Alsace. Match with seafood and white meats over the next 5-6 years. 18.5-/20 Apr 2014 RRP $TBA From the Pisa district, WBP, native yeast fermented, partially in old barriques to 12.4% alc. and 12 g/L rs. Very crisp, clean and cutting, though with warm solids ferment characters of savoury, ‘sweet and sour' citrus fruits. Lovely clear and crisp definition with acid drive, linearity, and fine mouthfeel. Very clear Central Otago style, with subtle input extras.  18.0+/20 Feb 2013
