Moderately deep ruby-red colour with purple hues, a little lighter on the rim. This has a softly full and deep nose of ripe dark red berry and black cherry fruit entwined with aromas of spicy plums and complex nuances of herbs, violet florals, earthy spices and mineral elements. Medium-full bodied, the palate is soft, rich and weighty with plenty of deep flavours of ripe dark red berry and plum fruit, with liquorice, dark herb, earth and spice notes. The fruit is sweet and ripe, and balanced by grainy tannin structure, lending a fulsome, textural mouthfeel. Some alcoholic power underlines the fruit and soft acidity adds to the gentle drive. Spicy plum and oak, with earthy layers are carried to a soft-textured, very long, sweet finish. This is a fulsome, sweetly rich Pinot Noir with dark berry, spicy plum and earthy flavours and a grainy, textural palate. Match with roasted red meats, casseroles and semi-hard cheeses over the next 5+ years. Two parcels of fruit from the ‘Pond Paddock’ vineyard, approx. 80% with clones 114, 115 and 5, with the remainder Abel clone, from vines over 10 y.o., fully destemmed, given a cool soak and indigenous yeast fermented to 14.4% alc., the parcels spending 20 and 24 days on skins respectively and aged 10 months in 18% new French oak barriques. 18.0/20 Nov 2015 RRP $36.00 New owners now. The wine made by Paul Mason. Dark, deep ruby-red with youthful purple hues at the heart. Elegant and tightly bound on nose with aromatic black fruits, along with black floral perfumes. Medium-bodied, and more up-front with sweet and aromatic black cherry and berry fruit flavours. Supple and fine-grained tannins, balanced acidity, just fades a touch on finish.
