Pol Roger ‘Sir Winston Churchill’ Champagne 1999

Sparkling Wine from France - Champagne
Review Date : 04-Dec-2012
75% Pinot Noir and 25% Chardonnay. Full straw-yellow colour with golden hues, the bubble very fine and very persistent. This is very refined, but penetrating on bouquet, showing elegance with great concentration. Deep, but tightly bound Pinot Noir yellow stonefruits and nuanced nutty, yeasty autolysis show an array of complex aromatics all intertwined, revealing layers of detail in the glass. Dry to taste, the palate is very tightly bound and concentrated, with intense Pinot Noir depth and packed with yeast-based autolytic notes, and nutty, delicate oxidative elements, providing a very complex flavour profile. The drive and line is noteworthy, with real power and steely cut. Still very fresh and youthful, there is a textural thread that carries the flavours to a very long, lingering, very dry finish with hints of phenolic bitterness and nutty interest. This is a complete wine, dry and textured with concentrated drive. It should evolve well over the next 7-9+ years. 19.5/20 Nov 2012 RRP $280.00
