Pol Roger Champagne ‘Rich’ NV

Sparkling Wine from France - Champagne
Review Date : 29-Nov-2011
Sitting between sec and demi-sec, this is a blend of equal portions of Pinot Noir, Pinor Meunier and Chardonnay with 35 g/L dosage, the youngest base wine at least 3 y.o. Around 30 base wines are used, from at least two vintages, reserve wine making up 20-30% of the blend. Full, even, straw-yellow colour with a vigorous bead, this has a fresh, bright nose with subtle bready autolysis, a little toast and honey showing. Off-dry to taste, the flavours are of honey and toast, clean and fresh, with a good core to the palate. Firm, grainy textures mark the mouthfeel, tending a little coarse, exacerbated by the crisp acidity. The dosage softens and enriches the finish. 17.5/20 Nov 2011
