Pol Roger Champagne ‘Blanc de Blancs’ 2000

Sparkling Wine from France - Champagne
Review Date : 29-Nov-2011
100% Chardonnay from grand cru sites in the Cote de Blancs, undergoing full MLF, the wine aged 9 years before release. 10.5 g/L dosage. Hail decimated vineyards in 2000, but the harvest was in fine conditions. Full, light golden-straw colour with a fine and persistent bead. On bouquet this is very refined and elegant, yet showing great purity and finesse, the aromas of florals, citrus and white stonefruits along with fresh bread and some nutty elements. Dry on palate, this has elegance and proportion. It is medium-bodied, and shows subtle layers of flavour. Florals and yeasty autolysis are combined with excellent freshness. Lovely clean acidity provides focus and energy around the core of flavour, resulting in an overall delicacy. This should develop effortlessly over the next 4-5 years. 18.5+/20  Nov 2011
